Day Eleven – June 7th, 2021 11:14 PM Mountain Time
I ate a cinnamon sugar bagel, had an orange juice, and a coffee at Blue Sky Bagels in Boise before checking out from the Grove. Tom and I drove 10.5 – 11 hours to a Marriott in Fort Collins, Colorado. We crossed through Wyoming and the Northeast Corner of Utah on the way. Since today was a big driving day, there weren’t many notable events besides the following:
- Passed through Malad Gorge in Idaho. A large waterfall cascaded down one of the gorge’s walls. Maybe I will stop there one day.
- Stopped for gas and a Subway veggie sub at a Love’s rest stop near Willard Bay Reservoir in Utah. The reservoir was pretty large. Desert mountains were opposite the reservoir along I-15S towards Ogden.
- I drove by a storm with black clouds about 45 minutes out from Fort Collins. We saw some lightning hit, but we were spared of any other adverse weather. A tornado touched down about 40 minutes away from Fort Collins just North of Frederick, Colorado. No one was injured, but two livestock were killed. I searched photos on social media and saw pictures of the twister. It was pretty wild that it happened in proximity to us.
- Grabbed dinner at the Blue Agave Grille in Fort Collins at 8:50 PM. The free chips and salsa were great. I had a Dos Equis beer for the first time and enjoyed it. My meal of a plant-based smothered burrito and a side of grilled vegetables was wonderful. The grilled vegetables ended up being green and yellow squash, which I always enjoy.
Tomorrow is our last full day and we are going to spend it shopping in Fort Collins, shopping in Boulder, and finding a place to stay in Boulder. It will be a good way to end the trip. If time allows, I will bring Tom and Alex to the Flatirons.
