West Coast Road Trip Day Eight: Leaving Boise, ID and Heading to Seattle, WA

Day Eight – June 3rd, 2021 10:30 PM Pacific Time

Started the day getting breakfast at Blue Sky Bagels for breakfast in Boise, Idaho. I ordered an orange juice, dry cinnamon sugar bagel, and large coffee (meaning of life was the brand). After polishing that off, we went and penny boarded down Freak Alley. We had a blast and took a lot of photos with the street art as a background.

We stopped into JD’s Bodega where I had Alex and Tom play pinball for 25 cents. I got an iced cold Canada Dry seltzer there and then almost forgot it. Before leaving Boise, we checked out Idaho Mountain Touring. The store had awesome bikes ranging from $1,570 to $12,999.

We left for Seattle after that bike store and passed through Oregon. The landscape was primarily desert and large dirt hills with limited vegetation. It looked like it would be a blast to mountain bike in. Vance Joy’s “Mess Is Mine,” came on the radio and I enjoyed listening to it for the first time in awhile.

We stopped near Baker City, Oregon to go to the bathroom at a Shell gas station. They sold $9-$20 airsoft guns, brass knuckles, blow darts, and a crossbow capable of killing big game. It definitely seemed like a free-for-all. Baker City boomed during the Gold Rush Era, but is now a very quiet town.

While driving through Washington’s wine country, Mount Rainier became visible from 200 miles from our destination. That mountain is nothing short of impressive. It’s summit rises above all the clouds that surround it.

At the Holiday Inn Express in Sea-Tac, I managed to get us a two bed condo on the 5th floor with views of the lake and Mount Rainer. This was free of charge just for signing up for the Holiday Inn Express points system. Definitely well worth it as the room and bathroom are enormous.

I ordered us an Uber into Seattle and we walked around. We accidentally ended up in Gum Alley and strolled around the Pike Market Place. We found a place to eat on the pier called Wing-Dome. The Beyond Burger, waffle fries, and Elysian Stardust beer were expensive at around $32. The food was good, but I couldn’t finish the beer. It didn’t taste great.

We picked up some stickers from a Seattle gift shop on the pier and finished the night shooting photos of the sunset over the water. I also captured pictures of the skyscrapers and the lit up Ferris wheel. We head to Olympic National Park tomorrow and I am very excited to see what the park has to offer. Hopefully we will also be able to hit some coffee shops and stores in Seattle before we leave!
