West Coast Road Trip Day Six: Yellowstone National Park WY June 1st, 2021

Day Six – June 1, 2021: 11:25 PM mountain Time

We hit Yellowstone National Park today. We came in through the South Entrance. I brought Tom and Alex to Lower Falls, Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone, Mammoth Springs, Lamar Valley, Fountain Paint Pots, and The Grand Prismatic.

The highlights of the day for me was the wildlife I saw and photos I was able to capture. I shot photos of bison with the Teton Mountains as a backdrop. We came across two separate instances of bear today. First instance was a black bear in the distance with two cubs. The second instance was when we were leaving the park. There was a large brown bear and three cubs. The pictures I captured were incredible and the moment was nothing short of amazing. The bear was within fifteen feet of our Jeep. The baby cubs made barking noises.

Between Colorado and Wyoming, I have seen three grown bears and seven total cubs. Three once-in-a-lifetime opportunities within five days.

Another rare instance that occurred was seeing a moose on the way back towards the Tetons. The pictures I got weren’t the best because of poor lighting, but it is cool to have moose photos nonetheless.

The last pull-off on the way back was one of my favorites. The sun was setting behind the Teton Mountains and in the grassy fields were a bunch of horses grazing. There were black, brown, and white horses, and all of them were stunning. I took numerous photos here that I will always cherish, along with the bear photos. As we left, the horses scratched their chins and necks on the wooden fence. I wish I could have spent more time here as it was a really pretty moment.

In summary, it was another packed day with a lot of destinations reached. On a sidetone, I am peeved a bunch of the baby bear photos focused more on the grass than the baby bears, but I still got a lot of good ones. I’ll continue to improve. Looking forward to heading to Boise tomorrow and seeing what that city brings!
